Commercials Drivers in the Duala markets have began packing their vehicles due to constant harassments by some officers of the Liberia National Police.
The Drivers who commute from Duala to Bomi and Grand Cape Mount Counties have expressed disappointment over the high level of harassment and intimidation in the hands of the police officers.
Speaking to OK FM Business Desk, the drivers accused Police officers of setting up illegal check points with the aimed of demanding money from them.
They maintained that the situation is creating serious hardship for them, thus making it difficult to make proper report and buy gasoline for the next day of work.
The Commercial drivers also attributed the situation to the increase in transportation as the money pay to the police is added to the transportation of passengers.
There are many check points on the Bo-Waterside high way, where police officers are just harassing us on a daily basis.
We take passengers from Bo-Waterside to Monrovia for 500 Liberian dollars, and when ever we meet police on the high way, they tell us to pay one 1000 dollars. If you don’t want to pay that money, the police will sometime give you 30 USD ticket.
There is check point at Jenneh #3, Klay, Gbah and Teanni, along Grand Cape Mount highway.
You know gas is vary expensive now, we buy gas 600 dollars for a gallon and now, space not running like before; than what’s the need? I mean is just frustrating.
The drivers said they will continue their go slow action, until president George Weah intervenes into the situation.

But responding to the allegation made by the drivers, police spokesman Moses Carter said thou they received information from some concern Liberians as it relates to police officers setting up illegal check points, the chief inspector General has not given any instructions to set up more than four check points along major high ways.
Moses Carter said any officers caught doing so will have to face serious action.
Carter called on the drivers to engage police authority with resourceful information that will help the police find solutions to the many problems created on the traffic.
