Gov’t presents 2018-2019 fiscal budget of over 560 million USD for passage

Monrovia-Liberia’s Draft 2018-2019 fiscal budget has been submitted to the National Legislature for scrutiny pending its passage.

The budget is estimated at 562.2 million United States dollars.

Submitting the budget to House Speaker Monday, Finance Minister Samuel Tweh said the instrument when passed by the legislature will commence President George Weah’s pro-poor agenda.

Finance Minister Tweh added that the budget has been cast under restraining difficulties considering Liberia’s fiscal situation.

According to him, the budget rationalizes the fiscal space to address the pro-poor activities.

 

Receiving the draft budget, House Speaker Dr. Bhofal Chambers vowed to sacrifice in order to maintain the country’s democracy.

Dr. Chambers vowed to do whatever it takes in support of the pro-poor government.

He at the same time pledged the legislature’s willingness to coordinate in moving the country forward.

 

For his part, Senate Pro- Tempore Albert Chie pledged the senate’s cooperation and announced measures to curb budget shortfall.

Pro- Temp Chie added that a realistic budget was needed to march the cash available.
