Monrovia-Over six million United States Dollars has been misapplied by the National Disaster Relief Commission for the period of January 2010 to December 31, 2016, the General Auditing Commission has said.

The GAC in its auditing report presented to the Joint Public Account Committee of the National Legislature Monday, unearthed that the institution has been conducting illegal transactions in its relief services.

Reading the report, GAC Deputy Auditor Winsley Nanka stated that over one million USD given the institution by ECOWAS for relief purposes was not used for the intended purpose but was rather used as DSA for foreign travel by officials of the institution.

Responding to the GAC report on behalf of the National Disaster Relief Commission, Internal Affairs Minister Varney Sirleaf admitted to some of the dubious deeds carried out by past and current officials of the institution.

Minister Sirleaf clarified that funding given the institution by national government during the period of the audit has been shortcoming.

He however presented several supporting documents to vindicate the institution of some corruption malpractices.
