ANC Cummings accuses CDC-Government of Planing to rig the pending By-Election

Report by Nyantee Togba_nyanteetogba@gmail.com

The Political leader of the opposition Alternative National Congress, Alexander Cummings says the continued delayed or postponement of the senatorial and representative by-elections in Montserrado County is part of the CDC-led government’s own strategy to finalize its plan to rig the elections.

Political leader Cummings said minimum challenges confronting the conduct of the polls by the National Elections Commission do not warrant the postponement of the entire elections which should have taken place on July 8.

It can be recalled the National Elections Commission on Thursday, July 4, announced the postponement of the Montserrado County senatorial and district 15 representatives By-election which was initially scheduled for July 8, due to what the commission termed as delay in the arrival of pre-parked ballot papers.

Cummings told the Voice Of America on Monday that government has lost its credibility and at such it wants to manipulate the entire elections processes.

Mr. Cummings further accused the CDC of trucking voters to Central Monrovia to have them registered for the pending Montserrado County senatorial and Representative by elections in districts #15.

It continues to reflect what I considered the incompetence and ineptitude of the CDC Government that is being affected by the delay in the By-elections. There may be some logistical challenges, but these are things that could have being avoided.

I believe by delaying theses elections will give the Government the opportunity to potentially rig the elections.

It despise the fact that the government is not delivering what they promised the Liberian people, Cummings said.

Meanwhile, Liberia’s Information Minister Eugene Nagbe has come in defense of the National Elections Commission, saying that the postponement of the elections is based on delayed in arrival of pre pack ballot kits.

Minister Nagbe mentioned that the opposition is now using the situation to cry woe, noting that the NEC under its stewardship of Counselor Jerome Kokoyah has conducted free, fair and transparent elections.

It is interesting that took part into a free and fair elections just a year ago would now question the integrity of the elections commission.

I want to say vary categorically that the way our elections are structure, it is impossible for anybody to rig election.

The NEC has conducted several elections that were free, fair and transparent. So, you need to ask Mr. Cummings for facts surrounding his statement because all of what he is saying are unfounded claims.
