CDC Government Presents Five Years Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development

MONROVIA: President George Weah has described the five years plan of the Pro Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development as a holy bible which contains the hope of the Liberian People.

The ceremony took place during the weekend at the Ganta United Methodist School in the presence of  officials  of government , including members of the diplomatic corps and other  development partners.

Speaking   at the launch of the development plan , President Weah expressed optimism that every single line within the five year agenda for the country will be achieved.

According to him, the five year PAPD will seek to address basic infrastructures geared towards improving the status of the country.

He at the same time mentioned that for the success of the Pro Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development to be achieved peace must be the hall mark for the Liberia.

He meanwhile called on Liberians to also take ownership of the instrument, noting that it will serve as guiding tool for the CDC led government.

“Over the next five years, we will develop our country, unite and reconcile our people, educate and develop our youths and promote peace and human rights,” he said.

Giving an overview of the Pro-Poor Agenda, Finance Minister Samuel Tweah  said the new plan would  diversify the economy through pro-poor works adding that, it would rescue more people out poverty over the next five years.

He also disclosed that the CDC government in line with its policy will address the pressing concern bordering on infant mortality in the health sector and further improve the educational sector as well as the construction of roads.

According to him, over forty thousand homes are expected to be connected under the Liberia Electricity Corporation scheme while affordable water supply will be accessible.

“The PAPD aims to left one million Liberians out of poverty over the next five years. This does not mean that those Liberians are to be rich. No, it means that Liberians will have a stable and sustainable income to support their various livelihoods.”

In order for the PAPD to meet its goal over the next five years, the economic diversification and the private sector Pro-Poor growth are the centers of its development strategy, Tweah said.

“In the last 12 years Liberia did not meet any of the Millennium Development Goals,” Minister Tweah said.

“In the next five years Liberia and its development partners should place the country on the path to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals that now replace the Millennium Development Goals.”
