Monrovia-The embattled president of the Cuttington University in Suacoco, Bong County has been booted out of his position with immediate effect, following intense pressure by faculty members of the University.
Dr. Herman Brown, a 1986 graduate of Cuttington, was removed on Thursday by Episcopal Bishop Jonathon BB Hart, and has been replaced by father James Tamba as acting president of the University, following a meeting with students and faculty. Bishop Hart was escorted on the campus by heavily armed police officers.
Father James Tamba, Dean of the College of Theology at Cuttington University, will serve until the end of the semester when a new president would be appointed.
It can be recalled on Tuesday, Cuttington University students and faculty began a three day protest, demanding the resignation of Dr. Brown for what they termed bad labor practices, poor management and dictatorial leadership and lack of good working relations.
Reading the position statement on behalf of the students on Thursday, the president of the Cuttington University Student Union (CUSU) Clint Layweh reiterated their stance for the resignation of Dr. Browne.
Among other things, they informed Bishop Hart that since Dr. Browne took over the administration, students have been buying sheets to print test and purchase other instructional materials.
They claimed many female students are constrained to act as security on their own, while enrolment has dropped considerably.
The Cuttington University students and faculty also cited delay in the payment of their salaries since the ascendency of Dr. Herman Brown as President of the University, unwarranted restriction on students and faculty members residing on the University campus; a situation that has resulted to some individuals leaving the campus.
The situation has created setbacks for students attending the institution especially those defending their thesis as classes remained closed.
