Monrovia, Liberia– The Economic Community of West African States has given 104 thousand United States Dollars to the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

Making the disclosure at the Program marking the International Women day Thursday, ECOWAS Commission Special Representative to Liberia Babatunde Ajisomo said the donation of the money is to provide scholarship for less fortunate Liberian girls.

Ajisomo indicated that the 104 thousand United States Dollars have already been deposited in the account of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.

He however called on the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to decentralize the scholarship program among young girls across the country.

The 2018 International Women’s Day was celebrated under the Global Theme: “Press for Progress” and national theme: “Action Now: Support the Liberian Women Agenda”.

The day marks the struggle that women around the world have made to gain equality and equal rights as well as to reflect on the changes and progress that culminated in their international endeavor.
