Liberia: CDC Announces Candidate for Montserrado County Bye-Election

Monrovia:  Delegates at the Congress for Democratic Change primary in District 13 have elected John Weah as the party’s candidate for the district by- election.

Weah reportedly defeated the other four candidates after he accumulated a total of 29 votes over the runner up who obtained 15 votes.

The primary was held at the party’s District 13 office in the New Georgia area.
Mr. Weah won the CDC district 13 primary ahead of three other contestants with 29 votes out of a total 45 votes cast.

The CDC District 13 Candidate John Weah lauded the party for his preferment promising to provide proper representation if elected in the pending by- election.

He added that the people of district 13 will need to complete the task ahead by overwhelmingly voting the party during the election.

“We call for the support of everybody that lives in district 13 because without your support, development will not go on smoothly. We are calling for your support in these elections to continue the legacy left behind by Senator Saah Joseph,” Weah said.

“This is the most transparent free and fair election I have ever witnessed in my lifetime. My colleagues who were not successful, I want to say that we are not opponents, all of us are partisans, let us join efforts for a single victory,” Weah noted.

Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee who officially announced Weah as the winner called on the defeated aspirants and supporters to rally their support the party victory.

Mr. Weah contested in district’s 2011 elections and came second to Saah Joseph who is now in the Liberian Senate.

Following the primary, candidates who participated in the process promised to support Weah in the upcoming election.

Siah Tandapolie, one of the contestants resolved to back off from the upcoming byelections and promised her support to Mr. Weah, saying, “Let me say thanks to the election committee for a transparent election. That’s the beauty of democracy, and to Mr. John J. Weah, I want to assure my support to you in the upcoming byelection with all my strength. As a true partisan I remain loyal to CDC.”

Meanwhile Senator Saah Joseph declared the district 13 by- election as a process between the ruling party and the opposition.

Senator Joseph maintained that CDC cannot afford losing out to the opposition community.

He revealed that the party will vigorously campaign to defeat the opposition once more to make it two amidst recent by- elections.
