By Sylvester Tamba

Monrovia-Liberia junior “Lone Star” on Tuesday started the 2018 Wafu Zone A U-20 Men’s Competition on a poor note after tasting their first defeat.

The home side suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Cote d’Ivoire in the opener of the 2018 Wafu U-20 Men’s nation cup at the SKD Sports Complex.

The visitors following a tactical approached in the first half dominated the second stages of the match, and were able to convert their chances in front of Liberia fans.

A brace from Diabate Yalatif plus the Ivorian skipper, Ta Bi Willy one goal were enough to the Baby Elephant secure their first three points in Group A.

The win takes the Cote d’Ivoire to the top of Group A standings with three points, while Liberia sits at the bottom of the table without a single point.

Liberia meets Guinea Bissau in their next fixture in Thursday’s last match while Cote d’Ivoire will take on Sierra Leone in the early encounter.

More action comes alive (today) Wednesday at the same venue, SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville City.

In the day’s first game, Senegal will battle Mali in a crunch encounter while Gambia sought things out with Guinea in the last showpiece of the day.
