Margibi County: Rep. Tarponweh Donates L$ 2M to Constituents for Education

Margibi County – Margibi County District #1 Representative Tarporesa Tarponweh has donated L$2 million to aid students to achieve education at all levels in the district.

District #1 is one of five districts in Margibi County with over 30,000 residents.

According to Rep. Tarponweh, education remains one of his top priorities for people of his district as such, every fund will be directed to achieve said cost.

Rep. Tarponweh stated that the launch of the financial aid for students in the district is intended to improve and strengthen those he considers as the ‘next generation’ to contribute to the country’s development. “It is heartbreaking when our district struggles to find educated people to fill out job spaces at all levels with this we need to build and empower more people educationally to make proud tomorrow,” he said.

He revealed that the economic hardship on parents and young people in the district has contributed to the delay in learning for some children which he described as worrisome for the future of Liberia.

Speaking earlier, Margibi County Senator Oscar Cooper lauded Rep. Tarponweh efforts to ensure young people are educated to compete on both national and international levels. Sen. Cooper contributed 300,000LD towards to the financial aid fund drive in order to keep children in school.

Other dignitaries made contributions to the fund drive including Senator Jim Tornolah with 100,000LD while Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives donated 100,000LD towards the initiative.

Rep. Tarponweh and others made the statement at the launch of the District Scholarship Fund Drive and induction ceremony of the District Development Council at the Rocks International Church in the district.

17 persons were chosen from the district’s 7 zones to represent the interest in an effort of fostering development and oversight of making decisions for the larger constituents. Four of those 16 persons were selected to serve in the top leadership namely” Moses K. Seah as chairman, Elizabeth B. Nebo as co-Chair, Mulbah D. Wuokolo as General Secretary, and David T. Momo as Financial Secretary among others.

During the induction ceremony, Rep. Tarponweh urged the district council members to continuously work to promote sustained development, peace and unity amongst the people.

For his part, the DDC chair Moses K. Seah lauded representative Tarponweh for inducting the first ever district development council to stir the affairs of the district, pledging his unflinching support towards lifting the district through development.

Chairman Seah noted that the DDC will ensure transparency and work for speedy development which will improve the lives of citizens of the district, stating that the council task will ensure that the district become number 1 in the country.
