MONROVIA: President George Weah has urged the public to remain calm until investigation into reports of child sex abuse at the More than Me academy is concluded.
More Than Me is an American charity founded in 2009 by Katie Meyler to help get girls from the streets of West Point and offer them education.
A documentary recently released by a Freelance journalist, Finley Young suggests that Program Coordinator of the More Than Me Charity foundation in West Point, Macintosh Johnson raped several female students of the academy.
The documentary established that Johnson later died of AIDS while in prison.
President Weah Speaking at the opening of the International Sheroes forum in Monrovia Wednesday, October 17,2018 said, his government is concerned about the situation.
While acknowledging the increase report of sexual violence perpetrated against women in the country, the Liberian leader has promised to enhance the prospect of the nation through development plan for women empowerment.
“Few days ago, the media reported that several girls attending one american school in Liberia have been allegedly raped by some of the officers there. This is a very serious issue and am urging the public to remain patient until we can conclude the investigation and anyone found guilty will be prosecuted.
We can not continue to allow theses sexual violance against our women and girls. In furtherance to that, I will support the increase in budget for a special court to prosecute sexual gender based violant cases in Liberia, President Weah added.”
Meanwhile President George Weah has declared himself as Liberia’s feminist chief.
President Weah said as Liberia’s feminist chief, his government through its Prop-poor agenda for prosperity and development is committed to increasing budgetary support for special court to prosecute cases of gender based violence.
” Let me declare today, that I am Liberia’s feminist chief! I remain committed to the promotion of women in decision making processes and their fight for equal opportunities and development.”
Dr. Weah however urged various judicial actors to ensure the fast tracking of cases, reduce court dockets and overcrowds of prison facilities.
