Monrovia,Liberia: The Independent Human Rights Commission of Liberia has criticized President George Weah’s decision to give more power to his economic advisor Charles Bright.
Recently President Weah conferred the status of a cabinet minister with full courtesies and benefit to his economic advisor Bright.
Addressing reporters in Monrovia, INHRC Acting Commissioner Bartholomew Colley said such extra power given the President’s economic advisor undermines the work of the Minister of State.
According to him, Mr Bright will have more power than the President of Liberia as per the mandate given him.
The INHRC Acting Commissioner also frowned at President Weah’s decision to undermine the statute of the Liberia Extractive Industry and Transparency Initiative by appointing the head of the secretariat.
Commissioner Colley stated that it is only the Multi Stakeholders Steering Group that has the legal power of appointing the head of the entity.
It can be recalled that President Weah appointed former Montserrado County defeated candidate Gabriel Nyenkan as new head of secretariat replacing Konah Karmo who previously served the post.
