Report by Varney Dukuly_favorduke7@gmail.com

The family of Montserrado County District 10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah during the weekend was prevented from leaving the country.

It is being on alleged that Immigration officers acted in the orders of President George Weah.

On Saturday, the wife and six children of the lawmaker were reportedly requested to present a documentation of authorization from the Ministry of Justice before boarding the plane at the Roberts International Airport.

Addressing news men following the incident, Representative Kolubah described the action as a total disregard to women and children’s right, while mentioning that his wife and children have committed no crime against the Weah government.

Representative Kolubah who is facing travel ban from criminal court ‘C’ over allegation of attempted murder and criminal facilitation, noted that such action would not deterred him from being critical of President Weah.

According to him, the passports belonging to his wife and children were all stamped by immigration authorities to travel, but was later reversed following the arrival of the President from Guinea at the Roberts International Airport.

The lawmaker who quoted authorities at the Ministry of Justice as saying; that the Chief  Executive, does not deem it necessary that his family leaves the country, pointed out that the battle line has been drawn between him and the President.

Speaking further Representative Kolubah mentioned that he will officially complain the President to the US Embassy in Monrovia for allegedly infringing on the rights of his wife and children.

He however called on the international community to withhold support to the Weah government because according to him the administration does not respect the fundamental rights of its citizens.

Meanwhile, the wife of Representative Yekeh Kolubah has expressed frustration in the Weah-led administration for allegedly going after her family because of Representative Kolubah’s stand against the regime.

Mrs. Kolubah speaking in an interview with OK News accused authorities at the Roberts International Airport of seizing the food intended for her twin babies.

According to her, following the order by the president through the Ministry of Justice to present documents, her children and her luggage’s were seized.

At the same time, the government of Liberia has clarified that it did not prohibit family members of Representative Yekeh Koluba from leaving the country out of any political consideration or ongoing legal case he has with the courts.

A press release issued by the Ministry of Information says Immigration officers acted purely in keeping with anti-human trafficking regulations.

Madam Georgetta Joyce Kolubah, the wife of the Representative Kolubah was due to leave the country on Saturday, July 13, 2019 accompanied by seven children, five of whom had diplomatic passports.

The other two had laisser passers.

The release says during routine checks, Madam Kolubah could not prove that all the children were hers, or that they were traveling with the consent of both parents in keeping with anti-human trafficking procedures.

When she didn’t produce the necessary legal instrument which would have validated her claims, Mrs. Kolubah was duly informed on how such documentation could be obtained, without which she cannot leave the country with the children.

The released that the action was a standard practice which other adults accompanied by even a single child have had to face.

Meanwhile, the government refutes Representative Kolubah’s claims that he spoke to Justice Minister Musa Dean about Saturday’s incident.

The Government, however, reiterates its commitment to upholding the rights of every Liberian, including the right to free movement. The government interposes no objection to any plans by Representative Kolubah’s family to travel out of Liberia, except where interdicted by the courts.
