Senators Angry Over Pres. Weah’s Appointment Letter of George Pattern as US Ambassador

Monrovia: Some Senators up Capitol Hill were on Tuesday seen expressing anger over the decision of President George Weah to have written the Senate on the appointment of George Patten as Liberia’s Ambassador to the US.

During the Senate’s deliberation Tuesday, President Weah submitted the appointment notice of Ambassador Patten instead of a nomination letter.

Following the reading of the appointment letter, Senator Jonathan Kaipay of Grand Bassa County in a motion requested that the President’s appointment letter be sent to the senate committee on Foreign Affairs for an appropriate advice on the matter.

But some Senators who were calling for an amendment to Senator Kaipay’s motion mentioned that President Weah’s letter be sent back to his office notifying him of his constitutional error.

However, the requests of the senators were not taken, thus leading to repeated disturbances on the floor of the Liberian Senate.

President George Weah, Saturday, December 2018 commissioned Liberia’s Ambassador Designate to the United States of America (USA), George S. W. Patten, Sr.

The President used the occasion to hail Liberia’s traditional diplomatic relations with the United States of America (USA) – a relationship spanning for nearly a century and four scores.

He called on Ambassador Patten to work towards strengthening and sustaining the long cherished relationship between the two countries.

Since the commissioning of Ambassador Pattern, there have been several mix reactions from the public, including memmbers of the opposition terming the act as a violation of Article 54b of the Liberian Constitution.
