1,094 inmates currently at Monrovia Central Prison

Monrovia,Liberia: Monrovia Central Prison Superintendent Varney Lake says Rape and Arm Robbery cases are the ones not speedily adjudicated by the court system.

He said out of 1,094 inmates currently at the Monrovia Prison, over three hundred are rape inmates.

Lake disclosed that as it relates to the decongestion of the Prison, he has no authority to release prisoners, but to only provide custody care.

Speaking to team of Journalists who visited the Prison along with a joint Security Team on Thursday, Lake said he is aware that there has been a task force set up by the government to fast track rape cases and that has been in effect.

According to Superintendent Lake,  Eight Hundred and thirty Six are Pretrial Detainees while two Hundred and Fifty Eight have been convicted with total of Forty Three Foreigners currently at his Prison Facility.
