MONROVIA: Criminal Court A at the Temple of Justice has issued the a writ of Exeat Republica on the Managing Director of the National Housing Authority (NHA), Duanah Siryon, his deputy for administration, Tugbe C. Tugbe, and Augustine Weah, representative of GELPAZ Construction in Liberia for their alleged involvement in soliciting bribes and the payment of bribes, respectively.
NE EXEAT REPUBLICA, is the name of a writ issued by a court of chancery, directed to the sheriff reciting that the defendant in the case is indebted to the a complainant and that he designs going quickly into parts without the state, to the damage of the complainant, and then commanding him to cause the defendant to give bail in a certain sum.
This writ is used to prevent debtors from escaping from their creditors.
Recently FrontPage Africa revealed in an audio recording where the representative of GELPAZ was heard saying that the NHA’s Managing Director requested bribes from his institution to win a bid for the construction of local housing units in Liberia.
According to a Ministry of Justice press release the three individuals are not allowed to leave the country until the investigation into the allegation is concluded.
The release further states that the solicitation, offer or acceptance of anything of value as consideration for the rendition of public service constitutes bribery, a felonious offense punishable under sub-chapter D, Section 12.50 of the Penal Law of Liberia.
The Justice Ministry release sid any one culpable at the conclusion of the investigation will be duly prosecuted.
