Liberian lawyers’ advice to be time cautious

Monrovia,Liberia-Civil Law Court relieving Judge Yammie Gbeisay has warned Lawyers to be time cautious or they will face punitive action including imprisonment.

At the Opening of the Civil Law Court March Term Monday, Judge Gbeisay said to be in good standing with him, lawyers must be acquainted with their code of moral and professional ethics.

The Judge reminded lawyers about Rules 11 and 21 which speak about unmeritorious suit and being punctual and attending assignments made by the Judges.

Meanwhile, the Treasurer of the Montserrado County Bar Association Attorney Kandakai Jalaiba requested that judges to also be on time.

According to Atty. Jalaiba, sometimes assignments are made by judges but would be absent on the day of said assignments.

Judge Yarmie Gbeisay, a former lawyer with a long year of experience in the legal profession was appointed to the position of Judge by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf  in early 2016.

Judge Gbeisay’s new assignment to replace Judge Emery Paye was made known during the opening of the November 2016 Term of Court.

It is part of the Judiciary rotational process of judges.
