Some Senators in an open discussion on the impeachment saga were seen deliberating in a contradicting tone on the road map prescribed in the constitution as to who really presides over impeachment of government officials.

Following recent initial discussion on the impeachment saga, some Senators said the bill of impeachment submitted by the House of Representatives was characterized by procedural errors.

The leadership of the Senate after taking seize of the matter following the initial discussion, stated in its briefing to plenary Tuesday that the Senate does not have any authority to interpose an objection on the House of Representatives bill of impeachment of the Associate Justice.

Following doubt on the minds of senators on its rules, the Plenary of the Liberian Senate however mandated its committees on Judiciary, Human rights, Claims and Petitions to review the Senate rules with other rules and procedures aimed at directing plenary on how to proceed on the impeachment proceeding of Associate Justice Kabineh Ja’neh.

The decision by the Senate followed a motion by Rivercess County Senator Dallas Gueh in close consultation with the leadership of the Liberian Senate, thus mandating the Judiciary committee to report within a week for the endorsement of the briefing by Plenary.

“Distinguish colleagues, having debated this issue surrounding the impeachment procedures and having listened to all of the opinions expressed on the floor this afternoon, I move if a second can be obtained that matter be turn over to the Judiciary committee to advie plenary appropriately on how we proceed on this matter going forward, and I so move”
