MONROVIA: Several Liberian Students studying in Morocco, who protested Wednesday at the Liberian Embassy in that country for allowances, have been chased off the Liberian Embassy’s premises by security forces allegedly on the orders of the Liberian Ambassador in Morocco Richelieu Williams.
The students on Wednesday, July 31, had gone to protest at the Liberian Embassy to draw the attention of the Liberian Government for their 10 months allowances allegedly owed them.
One of the students, Gardaweh Boe narrating the ordeal to this station said, the Liberian Ambassador to Morocco demanded them to provide all their phones to him for fear of being videotaped before making an official statement on behalf of the Government of Liberia.
Student Boe noted that as a result of his colleagues’ refusal for their phones to be taken away, the Liberian Ambassador to Morocco ordered the Moroccan Police to chase them out of the embassy compound.
He mentioned that they were peaceful in their actions but only needed a word from the Liberian Ambassador regarding their allowances owed them by the Government of Liberia.
While we were at the Embassy for hours, the honorable ambassador said that he cannot speak to the students until all the students give their phones to him. So, we said we cannot give our phones to you because we don’t know your intention, we don’t know what you have in mind for us.
What is so secrecy that you cannot say for the public to be aware of?
So, after few minutes, the ambassador could not respond to us, only to see Moroccan securities came and chased us out of the Embassy compound.
The ambassador went upstairs and said he wanted to speak to the students from upstairs, and we said no. You cannot be up and speak to us down here. This is a grave matter; you have to come down and speak to us.
The Liberia students are calling on President Weah’s Government to quickly assist in the provision of their 10 months allowances.
