PSU Officers Reportedly Abandoned Assignment Due to Lack of Stipend

Reports say the Regional Justice and Security Hub in Gbarnga, Bong County, have been abandoned by security personnel owing to the lack of food and other basic social services.

The reports say the service patrol stipend meant for security officers stationed at the hub has been delayed.

In an interview with reporters recently in Gbarnga, the officers named the lack of electricity, unavailability of food, water shortage and the lack of mobility as reasons prompting their departure.

The Gbarnga hub is reportedly staffed with 139 personnel, including police officers, human rights monitors, public defenders, prosecutors, probation and immigration officers.

Their Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) include serving the communities in Bong, Lofa and Nimba counties as security backup in case of any threat to destabilize the country’s peace.

The manager of the Hub, Tokpa Gowee has however denied departure of the security officers, but admitted to constraints affecting the operation of the facility.
