Nimba County Senator Prince Johnson has termed as unconstitutional, the impeachment of Associate Justice Kabineh Ja’neh.
The House of Representatives recently impeached Justice Ja’neh, citing misconduct and gross breach of duty.
In fulfillment of constitutional requirement, the Liberian Senate is conducting trial into the impeachment.
Senator Johnson said Justice Ja’neh was not given due process before his impeachment by the House of Representatives.
He spoke via mobile phone to a community radio station in Nimba during the weekend.
The senator said rules for the impeachment was set by the House of Representatives only, instead of both houses of the Legislature.
“The whole process is unconstitutional because he was not given a due process.
Both the senate and the House of Representatives are to craft rules governing the impeachment, but this was not done; each hose drew its own rules which runs contrary from constitutional provision”, Senator Johnson stated.
Senator Prince Johnson is amng many Liberians erming the ongoing impeachment trial, especially those in the opposition block.
Justice Ja’neh, who took the stand on Monday, March 18, 2019 stated that he was not given due process, adding the Country is proceeding on a dangerous path with unconstitutional matters.
Meanwhile, the Nimba lawmaker has condemned the murdering of two persons suspected to be involved into ritualistic killings.
The two murdered citizens were said to be in possession of human skulls while transiting.
Reports say the victims were being escorted to a police depot in Ganta, Nimba County when they were attacked by angry residents, thus mobbing them to death.
Senator Johnson said it was unfortunate for the two men to have been killed in such manner.
Senator Johnson mentioned that the lynching of the men runs contrary to the principle of due process, wherein an accused person is presumed innocent until otherwise proven in a court of competent jurisdiction.
According to the senator, such act sends a negative image about the county, and warned citizens to desist.
