Monrovia-The Ministry of Labor has alarmed over the illegal recruitment of Liberians for employment in foreign countries by a group calling itself Inter Tropic Holding located in Sinkor.

The Ministry says it has received report that the group has recruited a number of Liberians with a plan to conduct an interview on Wednesday at an unknown location.

Addressing a News Conference in Monrovia, the media consultant at the Ministry of Labor James Kwabo said the Ministry has not granted any permission to the Inter Tropic Holding and its associates to proceed with any form of recruitment in the country.

He noted that the action by Inter Tropic Holding  violates chapter 44, section 44.1 a & b of the Decent Work Act of 2015 which states that no person or association shall recruit any Liberian for employment either within or without the Republic unless such person be in possession of license from the Ministry of Labor.

The Labor Ministry is further warning those involved in the illegal recruitment exercise to desist with immediate effect or risk being arrested and prosecuted under the laws of Liberia.

“This action is furthermore in violations of Chapter 44, Section 44.1 a & b of Decent Work Act of 2015 which states in (a) that, “No person or association shall recruit any Liberian for employment either within or without the Republic unless such person or association be in possession of license granted under the provisions of this Part. Of the same chapter, (b) provides that, the Ministry of Labour may license fit and proper persons to recruit Liberians in Liberia for the purpose of: i) employment as employee outside the limits of the Republic; or ii) employment as employees within the Republic”.

The labor ministry Media consultant therefore maintain that the Labour Law of Liberia requires person or association wishing to engage in the recruitment of Liberians for employment within and out of the Republic to apply to the Ministry of Labour to be licensed as employment Agent/Agency.
