Monrovia-The Plenary of the House of Representatives has mandated its Leadership committee to work with the Executive Branch of Government in the implementation of findings surrounding the Global Witness report.
Recently, the International Watchdog, Global Witness accused some past and present officials of government who received bribes during the NOCAL arrangements.
The decision of the House of Representatives followed a copy of the initial report of the Special Presidential Committee on the recent Global Witness allegations on the National Oil Company of Liberia by President George Weah to that body.
The communication read by the House’s Chief Clerk Mildred Siryon during Tuesday’s sitting suggested several recommendations including the formation of an independent committee to ascertain why NOCAL, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Legal Department, Ministry of Mines and Energy among others did not provide proper documents surrounding the happenings.
It also suggested a forensic audit of past NOCAL authorities before a new team is setup to prevent the recurrence and that Representative Adolph Lawrence and others who allegedly received money, restitute the amount or be charged and prosecuted.
But, a three count motion by Representative Acarous Gray to have the House’s Judiciary and Investment Committees probe the investigative aspect while Representative Adolph Lawrence comply with the restitution call and that President Weah further execute the other recommendations was horribly rephrased.
Representative Gray in his new motion as requested for by House Speaker Dr. Bhofal Chambers called on the leadership to handle the matter.
