Liberia: NEC Certificates Saah Joseph and Dr. Henrique Tokpa as Senators for Bong and Montserrado Counties respectively

Monrovia-The Chairman of the National Elections Commission, Cllr. Jerome Korkoya says the electoral body will soon embark on series of reform measures geared towards maintaining its independence in the conduct of elections in Liberia.

Chairman Korkoya said the commission as part of its reform measure is seeking an adjustment in the registration fees of candidates vying for any electoral post in the country.

According to him, donor funding is currently being slowdown and at such it is the responsibility of the government to fully fund the National Elections Commission.

He made the assertions Monday when NEC officially certificated Dr. Henrique Tokpa and Saah Joseph as winners of the Senatorial by-elections in Bong and Montserrado Counties respectively.

In separate remarks, Bong County Senator Dr. Henrique Tokpa commended NEC for the peaceful conduct of the election, promising to work in the interest of his people.

For his part, Montserrado Senator Saah Joseph vowed never to make the people of county shame.

It can be recalled the National Elections Commission  declared Joseph Saah Hardy of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) as the winner of the July 31, 2018 Senatorial By-election in Montserrado County  with 67,793 votes, accounting for 54.8 percent and Dr. Henrique Tokpa as winner for Bong County with 27,806 votes, representing 47.0 percent.
