Scores of Marketers from the Liberia Marketing Association Wednesday stormed the grounds of the Temple of Justice, calling for speedy trial of the case involving the Association’s embattled President Alice Yeabah and Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor.
Madam Yeabah, who is currently facing trail at the Supreme Court against Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor has reportedly been replaced by an intern leadership.
The protesting marketers called on Chief Justice Francis Kporkpor to quickly intervene in the case or risk endless protests at the Temple of Justice.
The Marketers who paraded with Potatoes grin, Peppers, and Bitter bole and many other market produce were chanting slogans as a way of vetting out their anger.
We the market people, we want our president to go to work. If our does not go to work, we give your two days, we will close all the market buildings and nobody will sell. You sell we will damage it. If it causes us to go to jail, we will go to jail.
11 months we never took pay until Madam Alice Yeaban came and change our situation.
Why the Vice President of Liberia brining intern president? And this same intern leadership to us to the vice president before. Than that’s the same intern people you bringing back?
The marketers have however rejected the current intern leadership instituted by internal affairs Minister Varney Sirleaf saying that Madam Yeabah is the only recognized elected President of the LMA.
They want the Chief Justice re-open the case between the LMA President and VP Taylor and allow Justice to prevail.
Madam Yeeban was elected as LMA President in Grand Bassa County on February 18, 2017 in the LMA general election to serve a four- year term.
A week after her election some defeated candidates who contested in the election challenged the result in court on the basis of alleged election malpractices. Following the hearing, the Civil Law Court ruled in her favor stating that her accusers failed to prove their case.
On August 28, 2018 Madam Yeeban was ordered suspended along with her Vice President and Secretary General by Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor on an alleged act of corruption.
According to Section 8 of the amended 2010 Act of the LMA, it is the General Assembly that has the power to impeach or suspend any elected official that maybe investigated and found guilty of corruption.
