The former governing Unity Party has reinstated seven of its eight legislators after months of suspension.
According to a release issued Wednesday in Monrovia under the signature of the party’s Assistant Secretary for Press, Publicity and Outreach Mohammed Ali, their reinstatement came after weeks of consultation, discussion, and an overwhelming vote cast during a well-attended meeting held at the Unity part’s headquarters in Congo town.
In can be recalled on April 2, 2019, the Unity party suspended eight legislators of the party for reasons understood to be surrounding the impeachment of former Associate Justice kabina Janeh.
Those reinstated are Senators Varney Sherman of Grand Cape mount, Morris Saytumah of Bomi, George Tengeh of Lofa, Matthew Jaye of RiverGgee, Alphonso Gaye of Grand Gedeh, Milton Teahjay of Sinoe and Deceased Edward Dagosch of Grand Cape Mount counties.
The release further quotes the UP as requesting for fruitful cooperation with its legislative caucus while appealing to the Senators to distinguish themselves from other Senators adding they were elected to serve the Liberian people and not themselves.
However, the former governing party is extending its condolences to the people of Liberia especially the citizens of Grand Cape Mount County over the death of Senator Edward Dagosch.
