Chief Justice Korkpor pleads with government to fulfill financial promise

Monrovia,Liberia-Chief Justice Francis Kporkor has reminded the Government to make available the balance 500-thousand United States dollars intended to help improve the Judiciary.

Speaking at the opening of the March term of Court, Chief Justice Kporkor said in 2017 the government promised it would make available funding to help strengthen the justice and security sectors following UNMIL’s drawdown.

He disclosed that of the One Million United States dollars earmarked for the Judiciary, only five hundred thousand has been made available.

According to him, the money would be used to purchase vehicles for judges of the circuit and specialized Courts.

Justice Korkpor said vehicles used by judges have outlived their usefulness.

At the same time, the Chief Justice has named human resource capacity building and judges’ benefits as major challenges.

He also disclosed at the opening of the courts, that two hundred forty six active cases are on the docket and fourteen cases on the Motion Calendar.
