Former Senator Sando Johnson Threatens Lawsuit Against Western Cluster

Former Bomi County Senator – Sando Johnson

By: Luchel Togba

Former Bomi County Senator Sando Johnson has threatened a lawsuit against the management of Western Cluster Limited, if the company fails to revert to the Mineral Development Agreement signed in 2011.

Wester Cluster is operating in Bomi County but has come under serious fire due to a Memorandum of Understanding it signed with the Liberian government upon its return to Liberia.

The company was operating since it entered a Mineral Development Agreement with the Liberian Government in 2011 but was forced to depart the country due the Ebola epidemic which ravaged Liberia and its neighboring countries.

Before its return to Liberia in 2022, the company entered an MOU with the government upon which it is expected to operate but the citizens of Bomi County and scores of Liberians have rejected said agreement between the company and their government.

Speaking to OK FM on Wednesday January 18, 2022, former Senator Johnson terms as fake the current Memorandum of Understanding signed between the government and that of the company on April 12, 2022.

He furthered that the MOU lacks the necessary things that could benefit the citizens and the county.

Former lawmaker said the MOU should be rejected because there is clear cut roadmap about employment opportunity, training, medical facilities, social development funds and housing units for citizens of the affected communities.

Mr. Johnson alleged that the company has extracted approximately three hundred thousand metric tons from the mountain in the four months of its operation.

Ok FM cannot independently verify that the company has extracted approximately three hundred thousand metric tons of iron ore from a mountain in the western county of Liberia.

Senator Johnson indicated that within five days, if the company cannot revert to the MDA, he will pray for a writ injunction on the operation of the company in the county.
