On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, Mustapha Raji, president of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), held his regular media engagement at the LFA headquarters in Congo Town. The event, which brings together members of the sporting press, is part of ongoing efforts to update the public on the activities of Liberia’s football governing body. It marked the second such engagement this year.

During the session, President Raji outlined several significant achievements across various sectors of Liberian football. However, the standout announcement was the revelation that, for the first time since he assumed office in 2018, the government of Liberia has provided direct financial support to the senior national women’s team.
According to Raji, the government contributed $134,000 USD out of a total $172,000 USD needed for the team’s participation in international competitions and related expenses.
“We are very excited with this intervention for our senior women’s national team. This is the first support from the government since we took over in 2018,” he stated.
Raji also acknowledged last year’s support of $75,000 USD for the Under-17 women’s team, adding:

“The amount was not enough, but we appreciate it because the government has many priorities.”
In addition to financial updates, Raji addressed reports of a Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) investigation into alleged corruption at the LFA. While welcoming such a probe, he clarified that he has not received any formal communication from the LACC.
“I will be happy if the LACC can come here to the Liberia Football Association to conduct a comprehensive audit into whatever allegation of corruption,” he said. “It will be prudent for the LACC to investigate activities ranging from the 2018 WAFU Beach Soccer tournament to how funds were used.”
On infrastructure, the LFA president announced that the Ganta Sports Stadium is near completion and ready for dedication. He also revealed that groundwork has begun for the construction of an artificial turf at the Tomah Seh Floyd Stadium in Sanniquellie, Nimba County.
The project is being undertaken as a public-private partnership (PPP) between the LFA and the Jungle Water Group of Investment.
Raji emphasized that this initiative reflects the LFA’s ongoing commitment to improving football infrastructure nationwide and ensuring safer, high-quality playing environments for athletes.
